Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has accused the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu of twisting the facts of the meeting between the EC and the Special Budget Committee of Parliament.

Mr. Iddrisu had told the media that the meeting was told, the Registration will be phased out in some 6,300 Registration Centers.

He added that, having listened to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, there is no Technical or Legal justification for a New Register.

Mr. Iddrisu questioned some procurement of Biometric Machines made by the EC.

Clarifying the issues, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Minority Leader’s position is not a true reflection of what transpired at the meeting.

He justified the decision of the EC to procure new equipment which he said led to some substantial savings to the state.

According to the Majority Leader, the new equipment cost just about ¢7.4 million whiles refurbishing the existing machines was going to cost $15 million.

The Majority Leader also disclosed that over the past Seven years, $28 million was supposedly spent on servicing the old Data Center when there is no evidence that any such work has been done.
