A member of National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Edem Senanu, has advocated a clear legislation on homosexuality.
He said as it stands now Ghana’s law on unnatural carnal knowledge is ambiguous and open to so many interpretations.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, Focus, Mr. Senanu said if majority of Ghanaians think LGBTQI should not be tolerated, then steps must be taken to entrench it in the books to serve as a guidance to people who may want to engage in such acts.
The MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, said it is difficult to situate unnatural carnal knowledge in the laws of Ghana. He said though homosexuals have human rights, they don’t have the right to have unnatural carnal knowledge of anyone.
Mr. Ayariga added his voice to calls for the country to have a legislation that clearly explains what the laws mean by unnatural carnal knowledge.
The Director of Communication of NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, said Ghana cannot afford to be intolerant of homosexuals at this time as a recourse to that will only drive them into their closets.
Chief Executive of Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, called on International partners backing the establishment of LGBQTI office in Ghana to respect its sovereignty rather than imposing such issues on the country.
