Have you heard that if you marry a woman from Krobo land, you will have a good home – since they were reputed to be good homemakers? They attribute this to DIPO – a puberty rite for young Krobo girls where they are equipped with basic home making skills. Dipo is a unifier and a reminder of the people’s rich culture. Arguably, that enviable tag no longer holds true today. The reason, some say, is because the concept of DIPO has been adulterated, or even lost. Some say, Dipo today, is mere fanfare and does not pass on the needed moral lessons to the young girls. GBC NEWS was at the Nene Okumo Shrine at Mampong – in the Lower ManyaKrobo Municipality to learn the essence of DIPO in the 21st Century.
