President Akufo-Addo has refunded an amount of ₵ 237,974 to the Controller and Accountants General’s Department as an increment of his salary from January to August 2021.
In May this year, the President placed a freeze on Salary increase for government officials as part measures to reduce the damage on the public purse, caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
But when his accumulated salary for January to August 2021 hit his account, the President realized the directive he issued in May had not been enforced.
Addressing members of the Presidential Press Corps as part of the Weekly Press briefing, Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said the President has also directed the Chief of Staff to make sure that other government appointees also refund their part of the salary increases.
