The Ghanaian football scene was recently given a reason to cheer after all the gloom from our exit from AFCON 2021, with the confirmation of former Ghanaian international midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari officially joining the ranks of the Ghana Premier League champions Accra Hearts of Oak earlier this week.
The former Inter Milan, Udinese, Liberty Professionals, and Portsmouth midfielder will undoubtedly have an undeniable pool of valuable experience to share with his new teammates, a fact that’s understandably leaving both Phobian fans and teammates salivating on the quality he’s bringing to Hearts’ already impressive ranks! Even though Muntari hasn’t officially been playing for any side since his departure 3 years ago from the Spanish side Albacete, he has been training with the Phobians for a significant period of time. If the former Inter Milan midfielder can quickly prove his match fitness and be a positive influence on and off the pitch for the embattled Rainbow club, then the Ghana Premier League is in for a treat!
And to add to the excitement, Muntari’s former teammate and national captain Stephen “Tornado” Appiah exclaimed on social media that Muntari will go down in history as one of the greatest players to ever don the Hearts jersey! In fact, his exact words were “If there is one thing that makes me happy about your latest movement… Is the fact that your name will be written amongst the great players who wore the world’s most adored and envious jersey… Welcome to the greatest club my bro… Phooooobia.
With the Champions currently in 5th place and 10 points behind the league leaders and fiercest rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko, we wait with bated breath to see whether Hearts can make a late challenge to retain their title after a poor start which saw them gain a single point from their opening 3 games.
