Team Ghana prepare ahead of Commonwealth Games

The Deputy Sports Minister, Evans Opoku Bobbie, and the President of Africa Paralympics’ Committee (APC), Samson Deen are in Luton, England to begin preparations for Team Ghana ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games slated for July 28 – August 8, 2022.

Their visit to Luton, England was to check on facilities where Team Ghana would base during the international multi-sport event.

The two were accompanied by the Chief Director of the Sports Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, and APC Communications Director, Patrick Osei Agyeman.

They were received by the Deputy Mayor of Luton, Councillor Ghulam Javel.

High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Eric Masih, former Councillor of Luton Maria Lovell, and Helen Barnett, CEO of Inspire Sports Village also joined to welcome the Deputy Sports Minister and his team.

The team also met Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E Papa Owusu Ankomah.

The Commissioner promised to coordinate a fruitful affair with the United Kingdom ahead of Team Ghana’s arrival and participation.

Ghana’s contingents are optimistic about a good performance at this year’s Commonwealth event.

Over the weekend, Deborah Acquah broke the women’s long jump national record with the world and African leading jump of 6.89m.

Deborah’s jump is also an automatic qualifying mark for the 2022 World Athletics Championships, African Games, and the Commonwealth Games.
