The Chief Executive of the National Biosafety Authority, Eric Okoree says Ghana has not given any approval for genetically modified (GMOs) crop on the market.

The only GM crops which are the GM beans and the Nitrogen Efficient Water Efficient Salt Tolerant, (NEWEST) rice are in the hands of scientists working on the crops.

He debunked speculations that there are GM tomatoes on the market. Mr. Okoree explained that the said tomatoes are hybrid.

On a text message by a listener that the whole GM idea is to depopulate the black race was refuted by Dr. Daniel Osei Ofosu of the Research Scientific Biotech and Nuclear Agriculture Research Institute of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.

The speakers were on our Current Affairs Programme “FOCUS” last Wednesday which discuss Ghana’s preparation towards releasing GM beans.
