Heart of Lions have been officially crowned 2022/2023 champions of Access Bank Division One League, Zone 3 at a coronation ceremony after a 2-0 win over A5 Rences at the Kpando Park on Sunday. 

The Referee didn’t hesitate to award Lions a penalty in the 44th minute when an A5 Rences player handed the ball in the 18 yards box brought down…. the Lions.

Captain Sakabutu Dickson converted from the spot to put Lions ahead.

In the 88th minute, Mustapha Yakubu fired a powerful shot that doubled the lead to make it 2-0 maintaining the same scoreline until the full-time whistle. 

Heart of Lions has already sealed promotion after results in Match Day 24 where close contenders, Vision FC lost 2-0 to Attram De Visser while Semper FI fell 2-0 to Na God FC topping the Zone three table with 59 points.

Currently, they have 62 points and hold a 20-point advantage over Vision FC who sits second with 40 points after 26 games with four matches to end the league. 

The former Premier League side are returning to the Ghana Premier League after eight years of five league seasons. They were relegated in the 2014/15 season.

President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku was joined by the Division One League Board to present the League trophy and medals to players and Technical staff of Heart of Lions. 

Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association Daniel Agbogah and other top officials attended the ceremony.

Heart of Lions becomes the first club to qualify from the second tier to the Premier League this season.
