The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has commended Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) for its efforts in digitizing the company’s archives, to provide an effective platform for research work.
He expressed his excitement over the State Owned Enterprise, leveraging on technology and embracing innovation, describing the project as a laudable one.
Mr Oppong-Nkrumah said this at the launch of the Graphic digitization Archives held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
The project which is in collaboration with Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), TechGulf Ghana Limited and the Ghana Commercial Bank will provide an effective platform for research work which will add to existing knowledge in academia in the country and beyond.
The initiative will allow the media outlet to commercialize bulk information, materials and activities dated from the 1950’s till now and charge a stipend from the public for easy access to archival and current materials. Throughout the years from 1950 till now, information from the GCGL could only be accessed through the library system however the launch of the Graphic digitized archives changed the narrative.
The project, which has been progressing steadily since it started in March last year, would have information captured in the various brands of the company for easy accessibility by people in need of the information.
In an address, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, said ”the project has the potential of serving three categories of groups in academia, brand management and the media”.
He therefore expressed hope that the program will be embraced and its contents leveraged upon on all platforms for efficiency and productivity.
The Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Ato Afful, urged participants and stakeholders at the launch to create public awareness and educate others on the project.
He said through an IP system, ”individuals from all walks of life will be able to access archived information at the confines of their homes which will save valuable time and energy”.
Present at the gathering were representatives from the diplomatic community, Development partners, a team of GCGL and Corporate Ghana.
