The Managing Director of Kotlers Management Service, Samuel Egyir Sackey, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to strengthen their financial capabilities.

This, according to him, will promote responsible financial behaviour. He said this at this year’s Financial Fair.

His comment follows the lack of attention given to financial education in Ghana, which is one of the areas that many Ghanaians have not paid much attention to over the years. Despite this, research conducted in 2006 revealed that about 80% of the Ghanaian population does not know anything about insurance, and about 85% get their money stacked out of the banking system.

But speaking to the media at the fair, Mr Sackey explained that the event was conducted to bring about the gab that exists between the people and the financial sector.

He said this year is the fourth edition of the event and has brought financial regulators and their licensees under one umbrella. Officials from the finance, trade, industry, and information ministries were at the programme to disseminate relevant information about the financial sector to the people.

Mr Sackey indicated that the organisation is working hard to take the events to other places in the country aside from the capital, Accra. He hoped to do that in the next edition.

He urged the financial institutions in this country to give their support to this programme so that the people can be given the right education on financial literacy.

The Financial Fair, which began on Wednesday, October 11, will continue until Friday, October 13.
