The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has released its observations on Ghana’s December 7, 2024, elections, noting a largely smooth process.

It is stated in the press release that, “CODEO is an independent and non-partisan network of civil society groups, faith-based organizations and professional bodies which observe election”.

In the recent press release, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers, has announced its plan to use the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) methodology to observe the 2024 presidential election, as it has done in all previous elections since 2008. The PVT methodology is a powerful tool for verifying that the presidential election results announced by Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) truly reflect the ballots cast at polling stations.

According to CODEO, the two main parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had party agents present at 99% of polling stations, and these agents signed copies of the official declaration of polls.

Moreover, CODEO’s observations also revealed that voting and counting procedures were carried out in accordance with relevant electoral laws and the constitution.

The coalition has urged the Electoral Commission, political parties, and other stakeholders to reflect on lessons learned from the 2024 polls to improve future electoral processes.
Additionally, CODEO recommends continuous improvement in voter education and election administration logistics.

The coalition also emphasizes the need for proactive measures to prevent violence in all stages of the electoral process.
