Leadership and members of the Acrossfaiths Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, have extended their heartfelt congratulations to all political parties in Ghana for conducting the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections peacefully. Despite isolated incidents of conflict and regrettable reports of fatalities, the overall conduct of the elections exemplifies Ghana’s dedication to democratic principles.
In a statement issued in Accra and signed by the President of the Foundation, Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey, commended the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, for his statesmanship in conceding defeat ahead of the official declaration of results. This decisive gesture of humility and responsibility has significantly contributed to reducing tensions, setting a benchmark for leadership and unity in Ghana’s democratic journey.
“We also congratulate the President-elect H. E John Dramani Mahama and the NDC Party for winning the 2024 Election and wish Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP Party better luck in future elections and all circumstances we praise God almighty for all mercies and glory, may we stay blessed forever and ever, Amen.
As an interfaith organization, the Acrossfaiths Foundation reiterates its unwavering stance that politics must never be conducted on religious grounds. Ghana’s strength lies in its diversity, and we must guard against any attempts to divide the nation along religious lines. Mosques and churches, as sacred spaces housing members from all political divides, should remain zones of neutrality and harmony. Party supporters are urged to tone down their celebrations in these spaces to preserve the sanctity and inclusiveness of these institutions.
The Foundation remains hopeful that Ghana will continue to prioritize peace, ensuring an environment conducive to development and prosperity. We encourage all stakeholders to work collaboratively toward sustaining this peace, recognizing that it is essential for the nation’s progress.
We stand committed to fostering interfaith dialogue and collaboration to strengthen the bonds of unity in Ghana,” portions of the statement read.
