Former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has raised a critical concern regarding the mental state of the Black Stars’ technical team.
Following a disappointing performance that saw the team fail to qualify for the African Cup of Nations for the first time in two decades, Nyantakyi believes that the introduction of a psychologist could be key to improving the team’s dynamics and performance.
The Black Stars’ recent struggles have not only been a source of disappointment for fans but have also ignited discussions about the future of the coaching staff.
Otto Addo’s inability to secure a win during the AFCON qualifiers has led to widespread calls for his dismissal ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March. Nyantakyi’s comments highlight a growing recognition that the challenges faced by the team may extend beyond mere technical skills and strategies.
Nyantakyi pointed to a specific incident during a match against Niger, where Otto Addo’s emotional response after a consolation goal raised eyebrows.
“I saw that there is a psychological problem there,” Nyantakyi stated during an interview with Asempa FM. His observation suggests that the pressures of coaching at such a high level may be affecting the team’s performance and decision-making processes.
With the World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, the implementation of psychological support could be a game-changer for the Black Stars as they strive to regain their former glory on the international stage.
