Barbados names Rihanna ‘National Hero’ as Island becomes Republic

Barbadian Pop star, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, popularly known as Rihanna has been honoured by Prime Minister Mia Mottley at an event marking Barbados’ new status as a republic.

The Fenty founder, 33 was previously named Ambassador for the nation in 2018.

In a video of the ceremony shared by BBC, Rihanna walked up to Prime Minister Mottley to accept her new title, wearing an orange silk dress, strappy heels and a black face mask. The event took place in Rihanna’s hometown, Bridgetown.

The Prime Minister in a speech stated that “On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we, therefore, present to you, the designee, for national hero of Barbados, ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty.”

“May you continue to shine like a diamond and continue to bring honor to your nation by your words, by your actions, and to do credit wherever you shall go,” Mottley added, referring to Rihanna’s 2012 hit, “Diamonds.”
