Chelsea welcomed a formidable Manchester City side after trashing Tottenham 4:1 away from home. The blues seem to have picked up their rhythm after a slow start to the season. Manchester City, on the other hand, have had a fairly decent start to the season, both in the Premier League and the Champions League.
The Blues started the game by continuing from where they left off in North London. They really played with some confidence by holding on to the ball and spreading their passes around the field accurately.
Manchester City kept their composure and got into the game gradually to force the home side to concede a penalty. Marc Cucurella tussling with Haaland in the box handed City the opportunity to take the lead in the 25th minute.
Chelsea eventually got back into the game when Thiago Silva capitalised on Gallagher’s cross into the box. The 39-year-old veteran showed his experience in the 18-yard box by making no mistake. A few minutes after the equaliser, the Blues took the lead in the 37th minute, with Raheem Sterling helping Recee James’s pass with a slick tap-in into the net.
After Chelsea took the lead, City didn’t hold back, when they pulled out an equaliser to put the score at 2:2 to end the first half. A header from Akanji placed the visitors on course to push further in the second half.
The second half started on an electric note when City quickly went up by 3:2 courtesy of an Erling Haaland goal. The Norwegian scored his second and City’s third. As the match progresses, both teams gave themselves a fight.
Chelsea once again pulled one back to spark a much-needed comeback when Jackson got on the scoresheet. The comeback was interrupted by Rodri when he scored to give City a 4:3 lead.
This blockbuster of a match had to be decided in the late minutes of the game when City’s old pal, Cole Palmer, got the equaliser for Chelsea from the penalty spot to make it 4:4. The match ended with both teams sharing the points.
