Ghana Maritime Authority has warned Communities along coastal areas to be more mindful of the weather as the rain sets in.
The Maritime Authority lead by Commander Osei Brobbey in light of this, has organised an educational talk for some number of Coastal and Inland water Communities to raise awareness on Maritime Safety issues on the Volta lake as the main rainy season arrives.
They team went to Yeji and Dambai, the Oti Regional capital.
The Educational talk was held at Kete Krachi when the Maritime Authority met the Boat Owners and Fishermen Association to let them know the danger ahead as the rainy season is drawing close.
Captain Osei Brobbey who lead the team from the Maritime Authority advised the Boat Owners and Fishermen Association to take the weather report seriously and not use their own way of looking at the weather.
Speaking at the programme, Captain Osei Brobbey said the fisherfolk must not rely solely upon what they have always know, but seek news ways of understanding the weather information to avoid danger at sea.
“Ghana Maritime Authority is the only body that has the power to regulate safety issues on water bodies in Ghana”, he declared.
On the issue of how the people can protect themselves from some of these dangers, Captain Osei said “life jackets must be worn at all times, and folks in the Communities must be informed”.
