The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured that he will willingly step down as President on January 7, 2025.
Speaking to senior citizens at the 2024 Founders’ Day celebration in Accra on Monday, President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude for the privilege of serving as President twice, stating, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as President, not once, but twice. I will willingly step down as President on January 7, 2025.”
He noted that he will be in good company, alongside former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, who have also served two terms in the Fourth Republic.
Reflecting on his seven years in office, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
“It has been a difficult time, but I believe we are now turning the corner, returning our economy to normalcy, and reviving growth.
We will regain our status as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, as we were before the pandemic,” he assured.
