Farmers in the Ashanti region say they have been battling with the severe drought affecting regions in the middle belts of the country. They say they have suffered significant losses, with crops and overall farm output severely impacted by the drought.
Speaking to GBCNEWS, the Focal Person of Peasant Farmers, Annor Douglas called for decisive action to alleviate the effects of the ongoing dry season that has devastated their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, an Agricultural Economist and lecturer at the University for Development Studies, Dr Adinan Shaiwu has attributed the drought being experienced in the Northern and middle belts to the effects of climate change.
He noted with concern, the severity of the condition this year, which he said would result in food scarcity. Dr. Shaiwu called on the government and other relevant organizations to prioritize investing in irrigation and reclamation of lands.
