Government says it will not relent on its efforts to reduce, to the barest minimum, carnage on the country’s roads.

As part of the ongoing interventions, the Ministry of Transport has commenced a process to review the Road Traffic Act, Act 683 and the Road Traffic Regulations, L.I. 2180 to keep up with the changing trends in the road transport industry and also address some implementation lapses.

The Minister for Transport, Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah announced this at the inauguration of the newly built Office for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

Newly built Office for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority at Obuasi

Obuasi Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, was one of the first District Offices to be established in the Ashanti Region,  basically to bring the services of the Authority closer to it’s clientele. It initially operated from a two unit office block which was provided by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.

As patronage of its services grew, extensions were made to the existing facility. However, due to the growing population and the increasing demand for DVLA services, the old Office in the Obuasi Municipality was no longer fit for purpose, posing many inconveniences to staff and customers. Hence, the need for a bigger facility.

The primary objective of the DVLA is to promote good driving standards in the country and to ensure that vehicles that ply the roads are roadworthy.

The Board Chairman of DVLA, Mr. Frank Davies said the Authority is ensuring that customers no longer have to endure long queues and delays, but enjoy quick service and improved clientele experience.

The Chief Executive Officer of DVLA,  Mr. Kwasi Agyemang announced some innovations.
