Parliament has approved the sum of more than 921 million Ghana cedis for the ministry of transport and its subvented agencies for the execution of their projects and programs for the 2022 financial year.
This follows the adoption of the report of the Transport Committee on the 2022 Budget estimates for the Ministry. The Deputy Minister for Transport moved the motion for the approval of the Budget for the ministry.
Seconding the motion, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Committee, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, presented the report of the Committee.
According to the report, the Ministry intends to implement key interventions and projects in areas such as development of the Keta Sea Port and construction of coastal sea landing sites. He was excited the Ministry saw a 40% increase over last year’s Budget.
Supporting the motion, Ranking Member on the Transport Committee, Governs Kwame Agbodza said there is no justification for the appointment of a Director for the Keta Port at this moment.
According to him, it is a drain on the resources allocated to the Ministry. He, therefore, called on the Sector Minister to liquidate the position and use that money towards other areas in the Sector.
On the Budget for the Roads and Highways Ministry, the Ranking Member, Governs Kwame Agbodza says he can only support the estimates for the Ministry of GHS10 million being money lost as a result of the cancellation of the collection of Rad Tolls, is deducted the Ministry’s Budget.
