The management team and staff of Heavenly Gift of Joy Foundation, a nonprofit organization has donated relief items worth Ghc100,000 to some flood victims in Mepe in the Volta region.
The items include four (4) Deep freezers, Gas cylinders, Cooking utensils, 55 bags of cement, Packets of roofing sheets, six (6 ) pieces Knap-sack spraying machines, bags of fertilizer, several seedlings and seeds for planting.
The rest are; toiletries, food items, several packs of soft drinks and 500 bags of sachet water.
Aside the items, the foundation led by Mrs Veronica Casely-Hayford Benson also paid in full fees for 20 youths who are learning trade such as hairdressing, seamstress/tailoring, event decor etc within the Mepe community.
15 fishmongers whose business were destroyed during the Akosombo dam spillage were also given Ghc2000 each to restore their business once again.
Again 500 people were registered onto the National Health Insurance scheme free of charge in order to access health care.
In a speech read on her behalf, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Heavenly Gift of Joy foundation, Mrs Veronica Theresa Cassiley Hayford-Benson appealed to other organizations and well to do individuals to support the marginalized and vulnerable in the Ghanaian society.
“We need to be each other’s keeper as the Bible instructed us to do. It’s on this note that we are here today to put a smile on the faces of our mothers, children, and other affected families during the devastating floods,” she reiterated.
Presenting the items on behalf of the CEO, Mrs Priscilla Ababio-Kusi said, the donation was in fulfillment of a promise the CEO and her team made to support the less privilege and those who lost their properties through the Akosombo dam spillage when they first visited Mepe community during the flood.
It was revealed that, the foundation has adopted and taking care of one Patrick Agbavitor at the tertiary level.
The foundation reassured its commitment in supporting the education of master Agbavitor till the completion of his tertiary education.
The Mankrado of Mepe traditional area, Togbe Kwasi Nego VI, who received the items on behalf of the people expressed his gratitude to the CEO of Heavenly Gift of Joy foundation for such a wonderful show of care.
“On behalf of the entire community and on my own behalf, we pray for long life and prosperity for the ECO of the foundation and the entire staff for their kind gesture,” the Mankrodo of Mepe said.
Togbe Kwasi Nego VI, used the occasion to appeal to well meaning Ghanaians and philanthropists to emulate the footsteps of Mrs Veronica Theresa Cassiley Hayford-Benson and come to the aide of the people of Mepe since all is not well with them.
