Government has cautioned the public to be on the lookout for information on some media platforms, instructing prospective Ghanaian students and business owners to apply for UN grants from GH₵150 to GH₵ 700,000
The Deputy Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, at a media briefing in Accra said National Security has picked up intelligence about those behind the act and is on the hunt for them.
”The National Security has picked up signals that the Cyber Criminal with mobile number 0260583702 which is behind this diabolic act has reportedly circulated a link slth-payment.blocksspot.com.
To swindle these groups of persons the purported criminal activity further promises that persons arranging from 13 to 25 years are likely to receive between GH₵ 150.000 to GH₵300.000. While those between 25 and 65 years are also receiving between GH₵ 400,000 and GH₵ 700,000, there is no set ground from the United Nations and the public is therefore advised to ignore any such communication,” she stated.
Madam Abubakar also expressed the government’s concern over migration of some youth to Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, and Mali who are involved in a network marketing company called ‘QNET Services’ which engages in fraudulent activities.
“Three Ghanaian youth from Ejura in the Ashante region have so far been rescued from a facility after one of them escaped and lodged a complaint with the Ghana Mission in Bamako it is worthy of known that Ivorian Authorities in June 2020 apprehended 43 Ghanaians involved in the QNET business, also Togolese Authorities in May 2021 arrested 39 Nigerian nationals operating the same scam targeted at unsuspecting job seekers from other countries.
Checks have also revealed that some Ghanaians are caught up in several QNET facilities across Mali. Consequently, the Ghanaian Mission in Bamako is liaising with the law enforcement agencies in Mail to rescue Ghanaians forcibly engaged in Q-net operations in Mali. Given the involving nature of this scheme and its dire implications for the citizens of Ghana particularly the youth, we urge your outfit to embark on a sensitization campaign to alert potential victims. We count on the cooperation of the Ghanaian media to help us save potential victims from such activities,’’ she added.
