The Auditor-General has directed 12 District Assemblies, Coordinating Directors and Finance Officers in the Ashanti region to refund ¢975,639 to their Assemblies.
The 12, contrary to Regulation 78 of the Public Financial Management Regulations 2019 (L I 2378), made the payments for goods and services without supporting them with relevant transaction documents such as receipts, invoices, statements of claims, certificates of claims, and memos to authenticate the transactions.
The 12 district assemblies are Adansi North District, Ahafo Ano North Municipal, Ahafo Ano South West District, Akrofuom District, Amansie West District, Atwima Mponua District, Asante Akim North District and Asante Akim South Municipal.
The rest are Bekwai Municipal, Ejisu Municipal, Oforikrom Municipal and Sekyere Afram Plains District.
The 12 districts, according to the Audit report, failed to ensure adequate supervision and failure by the finance officers to demand relevant documents before payments were made.
