The Tamale-Walewale-Bolgatanga highway has been opened after hours of blockade in protests over the attempted arrest of the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, who was enskinned last week.
On Monday, February 20, the youth took to the streets, burning tyres and obstructing the main highway that connects Walewale to the Upper East and Southern Ghana.
As at 6 p.m., vehicles were allowed to move, but tension remained high.
Giving an update on the situation, GBC’s Northern Regional Correspondent Mutarla Issah, reports that the blockade brought business activities to a standstill as a long line of vehicles formed on the Southern and Northern ends of Walewale.
