The family of the Late Joseph Entsie, 53, a taxi driver who allegedly committed suicide in Police cells at the Sekondi Police Station, has given the Ghana Police Service a weeks’ ultimatum to provide them with his postmortem.
Background
The deceased who reportedly knocked down a Police Officer on Christmas Eve was allegedly found to have committed suicide on December 25, 2021.
Family’s stance on development
According to his family members, the delay by the Ghana Police Service in furnishing them with the report is suspicious. At a media briefing held at the Fijai Taxi Station where the deceased was stationed, his brother Kwame Appiah said it has been more than a month since the incident happened yet nothing has been done to ascertain what caused his death.
The Younger brother of the deceased, Kwame Appiah, said reports the police are giving is not factual, because people go into Police cells with only underwear and so reports that he hanged himself using a pair of jeans trousers is false.
He noted that an earlier postmortem carried on the deceased stated that he did not hang himself but died of a different course.
Mr. Appiah said the Police has refused to make the results public only to conduct a second postmortem after disagreeing with the first results.
Secretary of the Fijai Drivers Association, Seth Ahortia expressed worry and disappointment in the attitude of Police as he believes there is some sort of distortion in the oral narrations given by the various Heads of Units and Divisions of the Police.
He said family members of the deceased want the truth and can only believe what is contained in a postmortem report and not word of month from anyone.
The taxi drivers who are in solidarity with family members of the deceased say they will not rest until the truth prevails.
