Workers of The Tex Styles Ghana, formerly GTP, have demonstrated against what they term inhumane acts of the Company’s new Managing Director, Fatau Mata Doro, who took office barely three months ago.
The Managing Director’s actions, they say, have the potential of collapsing the Company which is already in debt. The workers clad in black with red bands around their wrist, carried placards with inscriptions such as “creating marketing strategies is not done by Family and Friends, our Company GTP is in crisis, GTP Cannot Collapse and Government Rescue the Only Surviving Textile Company.
The Union Chairman of the Company, Joseph Korletey Kugblenu, said all attempts for negotiations with the new Managing Director has failed since she resisted efforts to talk to the Union on penitent issues. He said the Managing Director, who explained that the Company is indebted to the tune of 23 million Euros is rather employing new directors who are being assigned new vehicles.
The General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Morgan Ayawine, who presented a petition to management said the only surviving Textiles Company can never be made to collapse. He advised the workers to exercise restraint while the mother Union deals with the situation.
Management of the Company received the petition and said it will reply in due course.
