The World Health Organization, WHO says close to one billion people in low and middle income countries die each year as a result of inadequate water, improper sanitation and hygiene.
A report by the WHO said potable water, proper sanitation and hygiene can prevent deaths.
Discussing the Water for All Programme by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, Talking Point, an Advocate of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, Patrick Apoya said government must make more resources available to the Ghana Water Company Limited to expand and work on faulty or over aged pipe lines to enable them to provide quality water for people.
He said the ”frequent breakdowns and burst pipelines is the major factor for people’s inability to access potable water”.
He also spoke on illegal connections, pointing out that these are part of the woes of Ghana Water.
