The Minister of Food and Agriculture nominee, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, says government, through COCOBOD, will start paying debt owed License Buying Companies (LBCs) and cocoa farmers across the country today February 22.
He explained that the payments had delayed because of the decline in chocolate production across Europe and America due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The outstanding debt is estimated 1.3 billion dollars.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto made this known when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
