Ghana’s electoral management body, the Electoral Commission (EC), has hinted at organising regular media briefings on Election Day, December 7, 2024, to keep the public informed about the progress of the elections.
The briefings, according to the commission, in a statement issued and signed by a Deputy EC commissioner in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, aim to offer timely updates and ensure transparency throughout the electoral process.
The first media briefing per the statement is scheduled for 9:00 am on December 7, 2024, with subsequent briefings at 12:00 noon, 3:00 pm, and 6:00 pm.
“From 9:00 pm onwards, the Commission will provide additional briefings as results are received from various regions. Each session will last no more than 30 minutes,” It said.
The Commission is thus inviting media personnel with accreditation cards for the National Collation Centre to cover these briefings.
The briefings will also serve as a platform for the Commission to respond to any stories and reports from around the country.
The EC is again urging the media as well as the general public to verify any election-related reports with the Commission to avoid the spread of unverified information.
The statement maintained that the Commission remains committed to delivering fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful elections and looks forward to working with the media to bring the electoral process to the citizens’ doorstep.
For any clarifications during this period, the public can reach the Commission on its toll-free number: 0800 324 324.
