The Electoral Commission (EC) has set aside an amount of ¢79,502,909.63 for the implementation of the People Amendment Act (ROPA), for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This follows the High Court directive that every Ghanaian living abroad must be given the opportunity to vote.

But The EC has indicated that, due to, “limited resources and implementation challenges, it is envisaged that the implementation will commence with the 62 countries where Ghana has diplomatic representations.”

The report of the special budget committee on the 2020 budget estimates on the Electoral Commission has it that, “as part of its budget The Commission, has “set aside an amount at GH¢79,502,909.63 for the implementation at ROPAA, in the 2020 General Elections”.

The Commission explained to the committee that, “the modalities and the scope of its implementation are being worked out for efficient and effective implementation in light of the recent rulings of the High Court of the land”.
