Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made history by winning the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat. This victory ends years of dominance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area.
The election results announced late on Sunday showed Akurugu receiving 51,634 votes, narrowly beating the NPP candidate, Mike Oquaye Jr., who got 50,477 votes.
This is the first time the NDC has won the Dome Kwabenya seat, which was seen as a stronghold of the NPP.
The NDC also took other important seats from the NPP, including Adansi Asokwa and Sekondi, in what turned out to be a challenging election for the ruling party.
