Hundreds of supporters in Ketu South took to the streets and gathered in front of the collation center to celebrate after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat in Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) erupted in jubilation as the leader of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) accepted defeat in a live telecast. This came even before the Electoral Commission officially declared the final results of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Dr. Bawumia, the 2024 NPP flagbearer, conceded early Sunday morning, following projections that indicated a victory for the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama, with about 56% of the votes.

Earlier, the NDC, in its fourth media briefing, had declared a landslide victory, claiming over 185 seats in Parliament.

The NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, said, “The NDC’s provisional results show that our Presidential candidate, John Mahama, won with 56.34%, leading in 13 regions.”

He provided additional details, stating that results from 38,896 polling stations out of 40,976 indicated that the NDC secured a total of 11,159,430 votes. “John Mahama received 6,286,600 votes, representing 56.34%, while the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia garnered 4,615,006 votes, representing 41.35%,” he added.

The declaration sparked excitement among party members and supporters, reinforcing their confidence in Mahama’s return to power. Ghanaians now await the official confirmation from the Electoral Commission.
