The former Minister of Defence, Interior and Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Mark Owen Woyongo, has passed away.
In a statement issued by the head of the family, Mr. Awuni Zinge, stated that Mark Owen Woyongo passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Bank of Ghana Hospital in Accra.
“The head of the Woyongo Family, Mr. Awini Zinge of Nayagnia–Navrongo, wishes to announce with deep sorrow the death of their beloved son and brother, Hon. Mark Owen Woyongo,” the statement read.
“The sad event occurred on Wednesday, 17th January 2024 at the Bank of Ghana Hospital,” part of the statement issued on Thursday, January 18, 2024 said.
About the late former Defence Minister
He was appointed the Upper East Regional Minister by the late President John Evans Atta Mills in his government in 2009.
He was retained in that position by former President John Dramani Mahama following the death of President Mills.
In 2013, he was nominated by President Mahama for the position of Minister for Defence. He was later nominated for the position of Interior Minister in 2014 by President Mahama.
