The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned all its functionaries, members and sympathisers to refrain from making derogatory comments aimed at the traditional leadership in the Ashanti region, particularly in relation to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Wusu Tutu, and Manhyia Palace, in relation to an alleged misunderstanding between some of its regional executives and some chiefs.
Addressing the media in Kumasi on Monday, January 22, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua, assured that the National leadership of the party is handling whatever differences must have occurred towards an amicable resolution in the interest of the party and the chiefs and people of Ashanti in particular, for the peace and interest of society.
“As a party, we have a history, we have a tradition, and we certainly have an ideology. We know where we came from as a party; from UGCC, NLM, PP, PFP, and the New Patriotic Party. Our history has been shaped, our history has been formed, and our history has been supported by Asanteman,” Mr. Kodua recounted.
The General Secretary warned, “as a party, we hold absolute respect for Asanteman, especially his Majesty, our king, and Nananom. So I’ll use this platform to caution the rank and file of our party to desist from making any commentary, whether through the media, social media platforms, or whatever form of communication, to desist from making any sensitive comment regarding Nananom and his Majesty. The leadership of the party is on the ground and knows what to do.”
