The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday 21st January 2024 organized an Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference to acclaim the party’s Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates who stood having unopposed in their respective constituencies.
The ceremony was line with Article 7(31) of the NPP’s Constitution.
Unopposed parliamentary candidates in Tolon, Karaga, Gushegu, Bimbila, and Tatale-Sanguli constituencies in the Northern Region, were all affirmed as the party’s sole parliamentary candidates during events held within their respective constituencies
NPP constituency delegates in Tolon unanimously supported the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) who doubles as the deputy Majority Whip, Mr. Habib Iddrisu during acclamation ceremony held at the Sari Conference Hall in the Northern Region.
The event, supervised by Tolon Electoral Commission (EC) District Officer, Ben Teye, saw thousands of delegates affirming their support for the parliamentary candidate.
The Tolon District EC officer asked “As many endorse the candidature of honourable Habib Iddrisu, Say I”. All delegates present shouted “I” in unison.
Addressing delegates, party officials and some supporters, the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, in the Eastern region, Mr Frank Annor Dompreh, who is also the Majority Chief Whip, praised Mr. Habib. Adding that he is a valuable asset to the NPP, attributing his significant contributions to most achievements in parliament.
“If there has been any success chalked in parliament, Habib played a role. In this context and as the saying goes, behind every successful whip is a deputy whip.
This is my first time coming to my colleague Honorable Habib’s constituency, but I can feel his popularity on my skin. Don’t take your member of parliament for granted; he is probably the first MP to be in leadership in his first term.” He retorted
The MP for Tolon and second deputy majority chief whip, in his acceptance speech described the occasion as a true demonstration of unity and togetherness in the constituency, and appealed to all constituency executives and followers of the NPP to unite for victory come December 7, 2024 general elections.
“In 2020, we won 75 out of the 129 polling stations with a parliamentary gap of 9,280. This time we aim higher; we must win every polling station.” Mr Habib said.
He expressed gratitude to constituents for their confidence, allowing him to go unopposed in the internal parliamentary contest.
Mr Habib further tasked delegates to secure a resounding victory for the NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 polls.
