Asante Kotoko woke up from their slumber as they defeated league leaders Samartex by 1:0 to end their winless streak in the league in their last 7 matches played.

The Porcupine Warriors became a subject of discussion heading into game week 27 of the Ghana Premier League after holding an emergency meeting with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II earlier in the week following their abysmal performance.

Before the visit to the Manhyia, Kotoko had managed just a win since the return of the second leg of the Ghana Premier league. They stood at the 11th position on the league table with 33 points.

Kotoko gave out some determined performances despite being held by Samartex, whose defensive line stood tall against all odds being thrown at them by Kotoko. The defensive line eventually got breached as Kotoko were handed a lifeline into the game from the penalty spot.

Morrison steeped up for the Porcupine Warriors as he slotted home from the spot to give Kotoko a much-needed victory after a poor run of games, which gradually sank them into the regulation line. The victory against Samartex handed Kotoko their second victory in the second round of the 2023–2024 Ghana Premier League.

The test of their come back will be proven in their next tie when they face Medeama Sporting Club on Saturday April 27, 2024 at the Tarkwa Stadium.
