The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, has disclosed that government is yet to pay the bonuses due the national U-23 team, Black Meteors and the senior national team, the Black Stars.
“This is a critical issue I am discussing with the FA leadership. I have already asked him to relook at the bonus structure.”
“We have our release of funds also based on our timetable. As we speak, the fourth quarter hasn’t hit our account. So we are waiting for it to hit our account then we pay those people that we owe,” he disclosed, on Wednesday December 4, when he took his turn at the ‘Meet The Press’ series in Accra.
“The Black Stars, the two of them — Sao Tome and South Africa — are outstanding as we speak.”
That is the only teams that we owe, he noted, but it is based on also the release of funds.
According to Mr. Asiamah, government doesn’t owe any team per diem.
“Any team that travels, we pay their per diem everyday, feed them three square meals a day, and provide accommodation,” he said, adding that, “It’s not that they are there and they being starved of funds. No, it’s not true.”
