The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) has commiserated with the family of the late Inspector Philip Nii Tetteh Lomotey, a match commissioner who passed away on Monday, June 26.
Eyewitnesses at the VIP stands of the Ho Sports Stadium said he collapsed during the playoff between Home Stars FC and Inter Allies FC. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
On Monday, June 26, the Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association, Daniel Agbogah, led a delegation to visit the deceased family. Other members of the delegation were Executive Council Members, RFA Vice Chairman, Mr. Caesar Heh, and RFA Secretary Promise Michael Ahiagba.
Chief Inspector Atsu Gorni, who is in charge of the Drill Unit at the Police Training School in Ho, a unit where the deceased was actively working as a Drill instructor, received the Regional FA delegation.
They met the wife, Mrs. Juliet Lomotey.
Mr. Agbogah said the late Philip Lomotey was a key player in the regional football ecosystem who provided the FA with expert knowledge on security matters.
“We are from the Regional Football Association, and Inspector Phillip Lomotey was a key player in our football system. We are here to commiserate with the families.
He plays a huge role in the football circle. He advises us on security matters. We express our condolences to the family,” Mr. Agbogah said.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Police Training School in Ho, DSP E. A. Sampah, who also met with the FA entourage, disclosed that his remains will be sent to the Police Hospital in Accra for an autopsy.
“Thank you for coming to mourn with us.”
“The body will be conveyed to the Police Hospital in Accra tomorrow, and an autopsy will be run on him. We will keep you posted,” he said.
The late Philip Lomotey was the Ho District Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), a position he held for six years. He served as match commissioner for most Division 2 Matches in the Central Zone.
After several years of handling the whistle as a centre man, he retired in 2015.
Inspector Philip Nii Tetteh Lomotey was 41 years old. He was survived by a wife and four children.
